North Adams, Mass. – Shake off the winter blues during the City of North Adams’ 15th Annual WinterFest! On February 25th downtown North Adams will turn into a winter wonderland full of activity and life. WinterFest activities take place all day, with the majority of the events held in the downtown area happening between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

In the early hours of the morning large blocks of ice will be delivered to sites on Main Street in North Adams, and people can watch throughout the day as talented artists and business owners transform this frozen water into unique pieces of art.

The WinterFest Chowder Competition is one of the staples of this winter celebration. From 12 – 2 p.m. the public is invited to sample the cream of the chowder crop as area restaurants compete for the title of ‘Best Chowder in the Berkshires’. A panel of local ‘celebrity’ judges will choose their favorite and of course participants are welcome to vote for their favorite to decide the People’s Choice Award.

WinterFest offers fun for all ages. A few of the storefronts downtown will offer activities such as face painting, karaoke, hot chocolate, and horse drawn wagon rides. Shima boutique will host children’s crafts at their store on Main Street and kids of all ages are invited to participate.
The fun doesn’t end on Main Street. Children’s activities will be held at both MASS MoCA and Heritage State Park. MASS MoCA will host renowned children’s performer Gustafer Yellowgold at 11:30 a.m. and the Western Gateway Heritage State Park will host a program called ‘The Mystery of the Amber Room’ at 3 p.m.

To wrap up a fun-filled day of WinterFest activities, the North Adams Vietnam Memorial Skating Rink will host a Skating Dance Party from 7-9 p.m.. Admission is FREE and this party will feature a DJ, food, fun and more!

New events, performances and activities are being added all the time. Maps and schedules will be available the day of the event. For the most up-to-date information on North Adams’ WinterFest e-mail Veronica Bosley at, or call (413) 664-6180.
